The First EV From Acura: The ZDX
Acura has announced that its first fully electric SUV is set to be released in 2024 and will be called the Acura ZDX. This decision reflects Acura’s commitment to performance in the era of electrification. Additionally, Acura will launch a ZDX Type S variant, prioritizing the driver experience.
The ZDX Type S, boasting an estimated 500hp, perfectly embodies Acura’s dedication to Precision Crafted Performance. Its sleek design, top-of-the-line technology, and exhilarating driving experience truly set it apart. Additionally, the ZDX A-Spec, equipped with dual motors, is expected to provide a remarkable zero-emissions range of 500kms.
During Monterey Car Week Acura unveiled its all-electric ZDX, signalling a significant milestone in its journey toward a fully electrified lineup. Acura Canada expressed their excitement about introducing their first electric vehicle, emphasizing their commitment to Precision Crafted Performance.
Design and Technology
The exterior and interior design of the vehicle was led by a team at the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles. This marked the debut of Acura’s new exterior design direction, which was first introduced on the Acura Precision EV Concept at Monterey Car Week last year. The ZDX has a low and wide profile with a sleek silhouette, a long wheelbase, and high-contrast surfacing.
Acura has placed a strong emphasis on performance from every angle. The design includes notable features such as an evolved front fascia with Acura’s signature Chicane DRLs, Jewel Eye™ LED headlights, and a seamless Diamond Pentagon grille with an illuminated surround and a 3-D embossed diamond pattern.
Inside the ZDX, the focus is on the driver with a cockpit that boasts high-quality materials, premium features, and intuitive technologies. Acura has integrated Google, allowing for seamless connectivity while on the go. The ZDX lineup comes standard with apps like Google Assistant, Google Maps, and more from Google Play, enhancing the driving experience by keeping the driver connected and personalized.
The ZDX offers a combined 22 inches of high-definition digital screens, including a Precision Cockpit Driver Information Cluster (11 inches) and a Center Information Screen (11.3 inches). These screens feature an intuitive touchscreen interface and are compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. Additionally, Google Maps can estimate the required charging time to reach the destination and can initiate battery preconditioning when the destination is a DC Fast charging station.
Safety is a priority in the ZDX, as it comes standard with AcuraWatch™, a suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies. This includes Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Blind Zone Steering Assist, and Rear Pedestrian alert.
The ZDX Type S takes safety and convenience to the next level with the introduction of the AcuraWatch™ 360+ system. This system includes Hands-Free Cruise driver assistance technology, allowing for true hands-free driving under certain conditions. It also features the first Automatic Parking System in an Acura, making parallel parking stress-free.
All-Electric Acura Performance
The all-electric ZDX is a premium SUV from Acura that is built on an advanced electric vehicle platform. It has a flexible battery architecture, a low center of gravity, and near 50/50 weight distribution, which contributes to its exceptional performance.
In the electrified era, the ZDX Type S will showcase Acura’s performance prowess. It is estimated to have a remarkable 500 horsepower and features a height-adjustable air suspension, performance-tuned adaptive dampers, and massive 15.6-inch Brembo front brakes with eye-catching 6-piston yellow callipers. Drivers can also personalize their driving experience with various drive modes, including a Sport mode for maximum acceleration and response.
The Type S model of the ZDX boasts an athletic stance and proportions, further accentuated by its 22-inch machine-finished wheels, the largest ever seen on an Acura model, and wider 275/40ZR22 self-sealing tires.
Recharging the ZDX on the go is quick and convenient thanks to DC Fast Charging, which can reach rates of up to 190 kW. The ZDX is equipped with a 102-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that can recharge over 120 kilometres of range in just 10 minutes.
Bang & Olufsen Luxury Audio Experience
The ZDX is the first Acura model to feature Bang & Olufsen audio, known for its luxury audio experience. This bespoke system has been specifically engineered for the tech-rich cabin of the all-electric SUV and includes 18 speakers, including four in the headliner, 14 channels of amplification, and a subwoofer for a powerful and sophisticated sound.
Acura clients will be able to personalize their in-car audio experience with the intuitive Beosonic one-touch sound control interface, which offers four different audio moods: Bright, Energetic, Warm, and Relaxed. Additionally, Bang & Olufsen’s Acoustic Lens Technology will improve the sense of space and realism for all passengers by dispersing high frequencies horizontally and limiting vertical reflections.
To add a touch of elegance, the ZDX’s premium interior design will include brushed aluminum speaker grilles with the Bang & Olufsen logo laser etched on them.
Pre-sales for the ZDX in Canada will commence later this year, with the first deliveries expected in Spring 2024. Interested customers should contact Acura Pickering for further information and to reserve the all-new Acura ZDX.
